A moment of patriotism was captured on film when two young boys stopped to recite the Pledge of Allegiance in front of a North Carolina firehouse.
The photo, which has gone viral, was posted by the Roseboro Fire Department and showed the boys with their hands on their hearts as the flag was raised.
A Facebook post by the department said that their chaplain caught the two boys, Thomas, 7, and Derrick, 6, paying respect to the flag in Roseboro, a small town near Raleigh.
The post read, “This afternoon, as Chaplain Herring was raising the U.S. flag to full staff, he looked over to the intersection and saw these two young people standing there with hands on their hearts saying the Pledge of Allegiance. God bless our community.”
When Derrick’s mother, Ladii Ingram, was commended on her son’s act, she said she was at work when she received messages about her son and nephew. She was worried at first, but when she learned what had really happened, “I started crying,” Ingram said. “It made my day.”
Ingram says she is very proud of them and will be rewarding them for their good behavior. “I plan on taking them to an arcade because they like playing video games,” she said. “That’s on my to-do list.”
We agree—they totally deserve a treat for their exemplary behavior.
