What we have been seeing on the news since the beginning of the year is not good. They are scary and it brings us down to asking the question, why did God allow Coronavirus or other bad things to happen? There was a fire outbreak in Australia earlier this year, people died and animals died too – properties were destroyed. There were reports of earthquakes happening in some countries in the world, properties were destroyed too. God created everything, He is powerful, He could see all of these happening. Children are dying, the innocent get killed by diseases, hazards or by any other deadly thing. Why can’t God stop them if He knows He is the Most Powerful?
To answer this question that people have been asking, we must go back to the time of creation and check how it all started. God created heaven and earth, everything He created was good and perfect. Genesis 1:31 KJV “And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.” God created Adam and Eve, then the problem came in, Satan came to deceive them and they disobeyed God. their disobedience opened the door for sin to enter the world. Sin is now part of the world but the keyword in that story is disobedience. Adam and Eve disobeyed. God already warned them of what will happen if they disobey or eat from the tree, they did not listen. When the problem came, will they blame God? from that time, everything about the world is not perfect. The things that man does constantly always have consequences.
In the time of King Saul. God ordered him to do something but he did otherwise. His disobedience cost him his throne. The things that are happening in this world today are caused by human beings. We create problems and we leave with them. Why did God allow it? the simple answer is that God has given us the power of choice. We can choose what we want and that which we do not want. Deuteronomy 4:26 KJV “I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto ye go over Jordan to possess it; ye shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed.” There is always a result or outcome for every action. The only thing that God can do for us is to warn us before time. Now it is our choice if we are going to heed to warning or not. It is not God’s fault if the consequences of action start showing.
Another reason is that God is the Almighty and He knows the best way to do things. God might allow some things to happen because He wants us to be strong in faith. Some things are to bring us to spiritual maturity. Not every bad thing that happens is completely bad – some might be to redirect our steps and help us go the right path.
In the case of the Coronavirus or the COVID-19. It is not God’s fault that something like this came up. We need to know that God had already warned about this but the man refused to listen. According to reports, it is believed that the virus is gotten from bats. People who eat bat must have been infected and then spread. In Deuteronomy, God warned that people must not eat bats. Deuteronomy 14:12 and 18 “But these are they of which ye shall not eat: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray.” Verse 18 “And the stork, and the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat.” If people had listened to this warning, there would not have been anything like the Coronavirus. God has done His part by warning everyone not to eat this but He has also given us the ability to choose. People chose to be disobedient and then the consequence came up.
What about the Children of God or the innocent people? God has promised that the righteous will surely be delivered whenever things like this happen. Psalm 34:19 KJV “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.”
Jesus also talked about facing problems in the world. He knew there is no way that people will not disobey and then the consequences will affect the righteous but He promised that He would give them all peace. John 16:33 KJV “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” Even though there is pandemic Coronavirus out there, the Lord will surely help His people out. In times of trouble, if it is not something that He wants to use to make you mature or bless you, He will never let you suffer it.
