4 Ways To Disagree In Humility With Other Believers

The word of God says that humility is the road to unity, or “being of the same mind” (Phil. 2:2). There will be times when we disagree with fellow believers over certain matters but we should know how to do it in love and not hatred.

Disagree In Humility

Today, as there are many issues which tempt Christians to quarrel, and judge each other, we must maintain the unity of the body of Christ.

It was so valuable to Jesus that he died for it. If we care about theology, then let us be mindful of unity as well.

So whether at your workplace, church, denomination, or relationships, we all face challenges at some point or another. When that happens, we must know how to react and get our point across without hurting the other party involved.

Here are four ways in which you can disagree in humility and love rather than hatred.

1. Honesty
Staying transparent about our convictions regarding a doctrinal statement, even if it causes challenges in our church life or relationships is worth it. Lying is not an option and adjusting or compromising on the word of God is not what the word of God has told us to do.

2. Be Wise
You don’t need to be in a confrontational attitude all the time about a certain thing. Choose to answer at times only what you are being asked. It does not mean you are compromising but that you are dealing with it in wisdom and understanding.

3. Act with Grace
People are becoming harsher and harsher nowadays and kindness is very rare nowadays. Choosing stage over peace can make you lose your testimony and so by speaking with kindness will help you with your theological disagreements. Show love and respect to the other party even if they don’t treat you properly. John 13:35: “By this, all people will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another.”

4. Trust
There is someone who is above all your doctrinal disagreements and nuisances and that is God. Learn to trust Him and let Him guide you and take care of you. Psalm 121:3: He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. God is more than able to stir up the hearts of His people and to show them the right from the wrong. Trust Him completely and He will make all your paths straight and remove all the issues that are worrying you.

Always act in humility towards others and trust God and you will see how the Lord will deliver you in every situation. Amen!
