Unity among Christian believers is very important because when we are united in Christ, we will be able to achieve a lot and accomplish the plans and purposes of God for our lives.
We have our differences due to factors like political beliefs, eating habits, persecution, and more but above everything, we are united in our belief in the word of God.
One in Christ
At an age when there are so many differences among us and people are expressing it on news channels and social media, we feel stressed and alone.
But despite our differences, we have so much similarity in Christ, we are united in the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
Through Christ’s atoning on the cross we have all been saved and that is the reason that we are all joined together.
1 Corinthians 1:10 says “I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same.”
Disharmony did not get into the church now but was evidently there even in the early church, and that’s why Paul writes to them to live in unity and be of the same mind.
Overlook minor weaknesses and differences
1 Peter 3:8 “Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind.”
As brothers and sisters in Christ, we have to be united in mind and heart and not be judgemental towards each other over every small matter.
We must prepare ourselves for the second coming of the Lord and look inwards first before we look and accuse someone else of committing a sin.
Speak the word and encourage one another
The Bible commands us to be filled with love and to love one other, despite our differences.
1 Peter 1:22 states ” Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart.”
Speak the word to one another and sing worship songs when you meet with another believer instead of indulging in gossip and slander.
Always reconcile first
Psalm 133:1 “A Song of Ascents. Of David. Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!
We don’t need to wait for the other person to say sorry and makeup, we can take the first step in reconciling with our Christian brother or sister.
Saying sorry and making up doesn’t mean that we have to agree to everything they say, we have a right to have our own opinion, but it is to keep the adversary out of exploiting our disagreements.
