An elementary school teacher used toothpaste to show her class the power of words and kindness.

Life can be tough. We all face pain, sorrow, and grief at different times. That’s why being kind is so important. We never know what someone else might be going through.

A kind word or a friendly gesture could be just what they need to get through the day. We might not realize how much our words or actions affect others, but treating others well is crucial.

In a video posted on social media, a creative fourth-grade teacher used a tube of toothpaste to teach her students about the impact of their words. She told her students, “If somebody can’t change something about themselves in 30 seconds or less, then you shouldn’t be mentioning it to them.”

She gave examples like telling someone their shoe is untied or their pants are unzipped. These are things that can be fixed quickly. But commenting on someone’s hairstyle, hair color, or body can be hurtful because these things are harder to change.

The teacher then opened the tube of toothpaste and squeezed it out all over her desk. She tried to put the toothpaste back in the tube but couldn’t. She explained that this is like the words we say. Once they come out, we can’t take them back, so we must choose them wisely.

This lesson is a powerful reminder of the importance of our words. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 18:21, “The tongue has the power of life and death.” Our words can build someone up or tear them down. We should strive to speak words that encourage, uplift, and show love.

As we go through our days, let’s remember the lesson of the toothpaste. Let’s be mindful of our words, knowing that they can have a lasting impact. Let’s use our words to spread kindness and make the world a better place.
