A third grader is being praised for saving her best friend from choking, only one day after learning the Heimlich maneuver.
Shailyn Ryan used her newly acquired skill to save her best friend Keira Silvia’s life as she choked on her lunch.
Both of them were having lunch at Marguerite Peaslee Elementary School in Northboro, Massachusetts, when suddenly Silvia’s face changed color.
Ryan immediately knew that Silvia was choking on her hot dog and started giving her the Heimlich maneuver.
Because of that, Silvia coughed up her hot dog and was saved from a bad situation.
Sivia’s mom, Noel, said, she is “so thankful, there are no words.”
Ryan had taken safety courses at the Northboro Recreation Center, and says that she wasn’t nervous at all as she knew how to do the Heimlich maneuver.
