When two beloved teachers were hit by a burglary, their northern California community stepped in with overwhelming support.
Karen Pollard and Rick Gott were on a field trip with their students when they got the call no one wants to receive—a neighbor informed them that their house was being burglarized. The burglars weren’t selective; they took everything from clothes to guitars. The list of stolen goods totaled more than $25,000, a figure not fully covered by insurance.
But in the aftermath of the burglary, their community became a stronghold of support. Sarah Winter, a colleague, initiated a GoFundMe page. Her intent was to help the couple reclaim a portion of their stolen items. The initial goal was quickly surpassed, with donations exceeding $10,200. Karen, touched by the gestures, found solace in the community’s embrace, “We have the most incredible community,” she said.
“In situations like these, the power of community support can make a significant difference,” Sarah wrote on the GoFundMe page
“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” Galatians 6:2.
