A Teacher Requested To Bring Backpacks Instead Of Flowers At Her Funeral

A teacher’s final wish is inspiring people across the world.

58-year-old Tammy Waddell served the children and community of Forsyth County, Georgia for thirty years as a paraprofessional and elementary teacher. She passed away earlier this month after battling cancer. The teacher’s family, friends and colleagues brought backpacks filled with supplies for needy students instead of flowers at her funeral.

Dr. Brad Johnson shared this photo on twitter with this caption, “My cousin’s final request at her funeral was Backpacks full of supplies for needy students instead of flowers. A teacher to the end”

More than 100 teachers served as honorary pallbearers, carrying the backpacks out of the chapel and back to their schools.

Verse of the Day

“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”

1 Peter 1:18-19
