Stop Doubting God

Non-Christians argue about the existence of God and even the Bible is full of stories of believers doubting the existence of God.

The hidden nature of God

God chooses to reveal Himself in thunder, in the burning bush and, also in a still small voice but the best way He has revealed who He is is through the Scripture. He also revealed Himself in his Son, the image of the invisible God. “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days, he has spoken to us by his Son” (Heb. 1:1–2).

God revealed in Christ

Former atheist Lee Strobel wrote about a book The Case for Christ, in which he speaks about Sir Lionel Luckhoo, a renowned lawyer who converted to Christ at the age of 64. Luckhoo said, “I say unequivocally that the evidence for the resurrection of Jesus Christ is so overwhelming that it compels acceptance by proof which leaves absolutely no room for doubt.”

The historical reality of Christ’s death and resurrection, paired with a parallel prophetic line right through the Scripture is the reason why we can confidently say that the Bible is God speaking to us and has been revealed in Christ.

Why does doubt come?

Doubt comes because man delights in his own wisdom, man argues against God’s existence or the Christian faith but God scoffs at him saying, “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God’” (Ps. 14:1).

But our doubts cannot keep God from blessing us according to His promise. He does lovingly discipline us in our doubts, that we may share His holiness. The doubts show us that we need a Savior because we are sinners. Sinners doubt the all-powerful, faithful, gracious, sovereign God who precisely came to the earth to die for sinners. “The Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10). In your confusion and doubt, call out to Him to save you from your sin. He is mighty to save all who cry out, “God, be merciful to me, the sinner” (Luke 18:13).

Verse of the Day

“While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.”

Luke 2:6-7
