Steve Harvey Tells His Story Of Homelessness And The Breakthrough

Steve Harvey shares his story of homelessness and how God put him on a journey of faith, fulfilled his dreams and made him successful.

Steve Harvey life story

Steve Harvey shared how he once lived in his car and had only $35 to his name. The year was 1991, he was practically homeless and about to give up on his dream of working in the show business. Although, he was gifted with comedy and ability to entertain others, Steve was not getting any place or opportunity to earn his living.

One day he cried out to God saying, “Come on, God. I’ve been trying to make this dream come true, and you left me out here like this.”

Steve says that God responded to his prayer and told him to get up because He was about to take him to places he had never been. He then rang the phone at home to check his answering machine. That was when Steve found out that he was offered a spot on the Apollo Show in New York. However it was impossible to travel to New York from Florida with the $35 he had.

Steve was about to call back and tell that he will not able to make it to New York, when he found another message, offering him $150 for a comedy gig. God was literally making a way for him in the background. So he took a leap of faith and performed the gig, giving his all, not knowing what would happen. He performed so well that he was called back by the club for one more gig. After the two gigs, he had enough to fly to New York and so he did.

God opened the doors for Steve in New York. He became an overnight sensation, people loved him. God provided him a way to fulfill the dreams he had. It set him on the journey to become successful as a comedian and television host.

“Everybody has a turnback moment. It’s the moment you can either go forward or give everything up. There’s one guarantee if you give up it will never happen. Faith is everything. God is always on time, He’s never too late,” Steve explains.

Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19 (NKJV)
