Two friends perform a heartfelt rendition of the classic hymn ‘Standing on the Promises.’
In our daily lives, we often face uncertainties and challenges that can make us feel overwhelmed. Yet, there is a source of strength and reassurance that we can always rely on—God’s promises.
The hymn ‘Standing on the Promises’ reminds us of the unwavering support and love that God provides. As we sing or listen to these powerful words, we are encouraged to trust in God’s faithfulness and find peace in His presence.
‘Standing on the Promises’ is a beloved gospel hymn written in 1886 by Russell Kelso Carter. This classic hymn has been sung by congregations for over a century and continues to inspire listeners today.
The song’s message is clear: no matter what life throws at us, we can stand firm in the assurance that God is always with us, guiding and protecting us.
Ninety-seven-year-old Nita Talley, accompanied by her close friend Belinda Lee Lewis, brought this timeless hymn to life.
Belinda added a second part during the chorus, holding the hymnal for the two, but Nita rarely glanced at it. She knows this one by heart!
One commenter aptly noted, “It is amazing how much lyrics Nita knows without need to read them.”
Nita’s performance has touched many hearts, “What a beautiful grandmother in beautiful voice, she reflects the Peace of Christ”, one wrote.
Nita’s musical journey is even more remarkable considering her connection to the music world. She is the mother of Gary Talley, a renowned singer, songwriter, guitarist, and music teacher who played lead guitar for the Grammy-nominated group The Box Tops in the 1960s and 70s.
Gary has also toured with well-known artists such as Pat Boone and Tennessee Ernie Ford and has recorded with legends like Willie Nelson and Tammy Wynette.
Despite his impressive career, Gary credits his mother, Nita, for inspiring his love for music. He often accompanied or recorded his mother as she sang for their YouTube channel.
Nita’s videos have garnered a following, bringing joy and inspiration to many. The love for music and faith that Nita and her late husband, Charles, who passed away in 2010, shared in their home played a crucial role in shaping Gary’s musical path.
As we listen to ‘Standing on the Promises,’ let us take its message to heart. The hymn calls us to stand firm in our faith, trusting that God’s promises are true and steadfast.
In times of trouble, we can find comfort in knowing that God is with us, guiding us through every challenge.
“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)” Hebrews 10:23
