Fountainview Academy sang a stirring version of Christian hymn ‘Stand Up! Stand Up for Jesus!’ as part of “The Great Controversy” DVD filmed in Europe.
Rev. Dudley Tyng was recognized as a leader of the “Great Work of God” revival movement of 1858, but one day while he was standing by farm machinery, the sleeve of his coat got caught in it leading to his arm getting torn off. He died soon after in the prime of his youth. But while he was dying, his message to his associates in the work, was Stand up for Jesus.
Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
Ye soldiers of the cross;
Lift high his royal banner,
It must not suffer loss.
From victory unto victory
His army shall he lead,
Till every foe is vanquished,
And Christ is Lord indeed.
This became the theme for one of the greatest known Christian hymns ‘Stand Up! Stand Up for Jesus!.’ It was written by Rev. George Duffield, and was read at the closing of a sermon he gave on the Sunday after the death of his friend Rev. Dudley Tyng.
Stand up! stand up for Jesus!
The trumpet call obey;
Forth to the mighty conflict
In this His glorious day.
Ye that are men, now serve Him
Against unnumbered foes;
Let courage rise with danger.
And strength to strength oppose.
This song echoes the Bible’s call to all believers to stand up and put on the ‘whole gospel armor of God’ and serve Jesus Christ with all that we have.
