Liam Stynch, a 28-year-old roadworks engineer from Birmingham, England, became a hero during the Storm Henk floods. He saved a mother and her three-year-old child from a sinking car.
While on a walk with his pregnant partner, Tia Draper, Liam faced a dire situation. A car, with a mother and child inside, was close to being swept away by a swollen river. Acting swiftly, Liam broke the car’s rear window. He used ratchet straps to secure the car to the bridge, preventing it from sinking.
Tia recorded as Liam calmly saved the little girl. He handed her to Tia on the bridge. Recalling the event, Liam said, “I heard a woman screaming from the car. She shouted, ‘Help me, save my baby; she’s in the back!'”
The West Midlands Police called Liam a “local hero.” However, Liam modestly attributes his actions to instinct. His story highlights the incredible heroism ordinary people can show in crises. It reminds us that heroes can emerge from the most unexpected places.
Let us take inspiration from Liam Stynch’s selfless act, reminding ourselves that God often calls us to be His hands and feet in the world’s darkest moments. May we always be ready to answer His call with courage and love, just as Liam did.
