Sherry Anne, who’s made a name for herself in the music industry, has skillfully combined two classic hymns that speak to the core of the gospel. ‘At Calvary’, written by William R. Newell in 1895, and ‘At the Cross’, written by Isaac Watts in 1707, both focus on how Jesus Christ’s sacrifice changes lives.

These songs remind us that we’re imperfect, but God loves us so much that He sent His Son to die for our sins. Sherry Anne’s version gives these timeless messages new energy through her unique bluegrass style.

The Bible is clear about our need for a Savior. Romans 3:23 tells us, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.Romans 3:10 adds, “There is no one righteous, not even one.” These verses show us that we can’t save ourselves from the results of our sins.

But even though we don’t deserve it, God’s love is amazing. John 3:16 says it best: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” This verse sums up what ‘At Calvary’ and ‘At the Cross’ are all about – God’s incredible love shown through Jesus Christ’s sacrifice.

The song starts with ‘At Calvary’, which talks about how a person can change when they come to God. The lyrics paint a picture of a sinner finding forgiveness at the cross:

Mercy there was great, and grace was free;
Pardon there was multiplied to me;
There my burdened soul found liberty,
At Calvary.

These words remind us that no matter what we’ve done wrong, God’s mercy and grace are there for anyone who turns to Him in faith.

As the song moves into ‘At the Cross’, we’re asked to think about how big Jesus’ sacrifice really was:

At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light,
And the burden of my heart rolled away,
It was there by faith I received my sight,
And now I am happy all the day!

This joyful statement shows how life-changing it is to experience Christ’s love at the cross. It talks about the freedom and happiness that come from accepting His gift of salvation.

As we go about our daily lives, let’s keep the message of these hymns in our hearts. Let’s remember the price that was paid for our salvation and live in a way that honors that sacrifice.

Like Sherry Anne, let’s use our talents and opportunities to share the good news of God’s love with others.
