‘My Lord’: 106-Year-Old Woman Credits Faith and Music for Her Long Life

A 106-year-old woman says her long life is due to her faith in God and her love for music.

secret to longevity

Hulda Erdman, who lives at Baptist Health and Rehab in Bismarck, North Dakota, turned 106 on July 6. Born in 1918, Erdman’s life has always been filled with music and devotion.

When asked about the secret to her long life, she said, “My Lord has just made me that old. Singing in the choir and all that kind of stuff.”

Music is a big part of Erdman’s life. She taught herself to play the piano by watching her brother and plays entirely by ear. “That’s all in my head,” she said after playing a song on the piano.

Despite some arthritis, she is healthy and enjoys her music. “My arms got tired. They said, ‘Enough is enough, Grandma!’” she joked.

Reflecting on her long life, Erdman said, “I don’t know where those 106 years went.” For her, there’s no secret to living a long life; it’s about faith and music. She said, “There is no secret. My Lord has just made me that old.” Her love for music and involvement in the church choir have brought her joy and energy.

At her residence, Erdman’s piano playing is a source of delight. “I love music,” she said. Her family and friends often tell her to take breaks, but she loves to play.

Celebrating her 106th birthday, Erdman didn’t have any big plans. Her life is a celebration of faith, resilience, and music.

May God continue to bless her with health and happiness.
