One night at about 9:30, dispatcher Jason Bonham got a concerning call at the Hancock County 911 center. The caller was a man who could barely speak.
Because he used a cell phone, Bonham couldn’t see the caller’s location on his screen. The situation looked serious, but help came from an unexpected source.
The man’s daughter Savannah picked up the phone and spoke to the dispatcher. She explained the situation clearly: “My dad can’t hardly breathe.” Her voice was steady and calm, even though her father needed urgent medical help.
When Bonham asked about her age, Savannah told him simply, “I’m five years old.”
For almost ten minutes, this brave little girl stayed on the phone. She told the dispatcher their address so emergency services could find them. She watched over her father and kept the dispatcher updated on his condition.
“He looks like he’s real shaky,” she reported. When Bonham told her help would arrive soon, she asked for specific information: “How many minutes?”

Bonham later said, “Every time I’ve listened to it it’s amazing. She’s just a little person.”

As Bonham noted, “We were able to get ’em there versus four to five minutes delay of trying to get an address and another delay of getting them there.”
Because of Savannah’s quick thinking and calm response, emergency teams reached her father in time. They gave him the medical care he needed, and he recovered from the incident.
