A widow in Kentucky found her late husband’s wedding ring 61 years after he lost it. This beautiful story shows how God can bring unexpected joy even in sad times.
Barbara and Glenn’s love story started when they were teenagers. They met on a double date, but they weren’t each other’s partners that night. Barbara liked Glenn right away. She asked her friend, “Get me a date with him.” That simple request led to a love that lasted 60 years.
In 1963, Barbara and Glenn got married. When they came back from their honeymoon, they planted a tree on their farm in Henry County. This tree would become a symbol of their growing love. Barbara said, “Through the years, as that tree grew, our marriage grew. It kept growing and growing.”
Just two months after their wedding, Glenn was working near their new tree. He was setting a footer for their mobile home when he lost his wedding ring. Barbara said, “We immediately started looking and never found it.” They searched hard, but the ring seemed gone forever.
Life went on for Barbara and Glenn. Their love grew stronger over the years. But in December 2023, Glenn died from cancer. They buried him on their farm, close to the tree they had planted so long ago.
Barbara was sad, but she wanted to honor Glenn’s memory. She hired Searcy Monument Co. to put a marker on Glenn’s grave. While they were working, something amazing happened. Jonathan Searcy was at the grave when he saw something shining in the sun. It was Glenn’s wedding ring, found after 61 years!
This discovery was truly amazing. Jonathan Searcy said, “Odds are a million to one. It’s like finding a needle in a haystack. God works in mysterious ways.” His words remind us that God can do things that seem impossible to us.
For Barbara, finding the ring brought mixed feelings. She was happy to have this special reminder of Glenn. But it also made her think about their long life together. She shared that Glenn had lost two rings during their marriage. She kept his third ring, saying with a smile, “I didn’t send it with him. I thought maybe he might lose it on his way to heaven. I didn’t know.”
The tree Barbara and Glenn planted as newlyweds is now tall and strong. It has been there through their whole married life. It saw the day Glenn lost his ring and the day they found it again. This tree is like a living story of their love.
Jonathan Searcy played an important part in this story. He found the ring while working on Glenn’s grave marker. It’s clear that God used him to bring comfort to Barbara.
Barbara and Glenn’s 60-year marriage is an inspiration to all of us. When Christ is the center of a marriage, it lasts forever. He will hold us dearly in times of despair and carry us through the storms.
