Jim Scott, grew up in Pittsburgh in the 30’s as a child often wondering who his parents were. Even his birth certificate said ‘unknown’ under the parents’ column. It was not until he turned 90 this year that he found out about his biological parents and his family.

Marylin, Jim’s daughter, wanted to fulfill the wish of her dad, who had been wanting to know more about his mysterious past for a very long time. So one day she decided to do something about it. Marylin explains, “I was like, ‘Okay, Dad. Let’s do it.’ I ordered DNA tests and we got started.”

Marylin then went to ancestry.com, to learn about her dad’s past and found out that her dad was left at a stranger’s doorstep, all wrapped up and put inside a box at just two weeks old, and was named after the two policemen who found him. She was also able to track down 45 blood relatives including his little brother, Felix, and George, his biological nephew. The resemblance between Jim and his biological dad was remarkable, judging by a photo of his dad.

Felix quickly made the trip from Pittsburgh to Jim’s house in Philadelphia after hearing about his long-lost big brother.

The two brothers hit off instantly and comfortably as if they had known each other their whole lives, even though they had just met. “I’m his younger brother, okay? And we just found out when I turned 86,” said Felix. “So, Jim owes me 86 Christmas gifts,” he jokes.

No matter how far we may go or how long we may have been out of touch with each other, the bond of family is ever strong and this story is an incredible example of that.

Verse of the Day

“Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.””

Luke 2:28-32
