There are a lot of people living in extreme poverty in this world, and most of them live in third world countries like Brazil where even a meal in a restaurant costs $100.
How do we react when we see homeless people and starving people, do we show them kindness or act indifferently towards them.
If you want to know how the Lord wants you to react then, read here, “For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.” Deuteronomy 15:11.
A homeless man walked into a high end restaurant Benvindo, in Belo Horizonte, in Minas Gerais State and asked the waiters for a meal. The waiter, Felipe Rodrigues Fontes, said that he felt strange about it because the man insisted on paying for it with his own hard-earned money– a single $50 bill.
Fontes served him the executive lunch he had chosen, which included an appetizer, main dish, and dessert. The bill came to $121.80 but when the homeless man asked for the bill, the restaurant owners decided to waive it off.
Surprisingly the man refused their offer and repeated that he wanted to pay for his meal with his own money, he earned by collecting the cans.
“He truly wanted to pay for it,” Fontes said. So he decided to charge him $10 – although, he says he “had to lie”, by telling him it was an ongoing promotion, as the man had $50 and was refusing to get the $40 change.
A diner at the restaurant who witnessed the act, took a picture of the man and the waiter and posted it to his Instagram with a caption, “We just watched a great example of compassion and synergy. The ease of this guy made me think about the many paths we choose in life trying to be happy … and many times, it’s in the simplest and most truthful and unexpected way that is is closer and more accessible than we realize.”
This picture which has since been reposted to a Facebook group on restaurants in Belo Horizonte has already got more than 2,400 shares and many comments praising Fontes and the customer.
