Police Officers Heroically Saves 3 Children Dropped From 3rd Story of Burning Building

Four Des Moines police officers hailed as heroes for saving the lives of three children from an apartment fire.

In the breathtaking video posted by the Des Moines Police Department, officers Cole Johnson, Craig Vasquez, Tyler Kelley, and Casey Sanders can be heard encouraging a helpless mom to drop the kids after they set to catch them one by one.

Early this morning, DMPD officers responded to assist DMFD with a structure fire at an apartment complex in the 3700 block of MLK Parkway. Officers arrived to find that heavy smoke was preventing their access to the 3rd floor.

Senior Police Officers Cole Johnson, Craig Vasquez, Tyler Kelley, and Casey Sanders quickly positioned themselves outside the building, and caught children that were dropped to them from a 3rd floor window. All are well…

Please join us in thanking these officers, and those who serve with them, for leaving their homes every day to help make Des Moines the safe and secure city that it is!

“Send them down. I got them,” an officer says in the video.

“Keep going,” he says. “I got them, I got them. Go!”

The clip ends before it shows the officers rescuing Harrison, but she also made it out of the building unharmed.

“I can’t say thank you enough to them,” the mother, O’Sheana Harrison, told NBC 13. “I owe them the world, because they saved my world.”
