Slade had two recent surgeries. “He’s been through a lot this last year,” Layla Thompson, Slade’s mom said.

She said that they were in the children’s hospital, and were extremely nervous about going to a hospital to have the procedure done.

Slade had tonsillectomy and when he came out of his anesthesia, he needed tender love.

“Kids don’t typically come out of anesthesia very happy,” Slade’s nurse, Annie Hager. She said he was crying and wanted his mother.

But Slade had to wait till the nurses checked his vitals, till his mom could come to comfort him. So Hager stepped in.

Hager said, that when she told him that his mother couldn’t be there, he asked her if she would snuggle him and she said she would.

When Thompson and her fiancé arrived and saw that Slade was being taken of well, they were feeling emotional and relieved.

Slade’s mother clicked a photo of the heartwarming moment which has become viral.

UPMC wrote on Facebook, “As a nurse, providing care is one thing, but making sure our patients are calm and comfortable matters just as much.”

The wrote that because of nurses like Annie, who keep patients happy by showing them compassion.

Slade’s mom Thompson said that we would want someone to treat our child the way we would treat them.

She and Slade returned to UPMC with a gift and thank-you hug for the kind nurse.

Hager wrote on Instagram, “This little guy touched my heart, and his mama’s beautiful kind words and actions have brought tears to my eyes twice now!”

She said that this was the reason why she loved her job.

We are touched by the act of kindness shown by the nurse to a patient at the hospital. If we all could be as kind and compassionate as this nurse then this world would be such a beautiful place.
