Weigle composed this hymn in 1932. He was a Baptist evangelist, preacher, and music teacher from Lafayette, Indiana. He composed over 1,000 gospel songs throughout his life. However, this particular hymn stands out for its story and meaning.

Weigle’s commitment to evangelism often kept him away from home. This dedication had a severe impact on his family life. Upon returning home one day, he discovered his wife had left him. She took their daughter, preferring worldly pleasures to the life of an evangelist’s wife. This incident plunged him into a deep depression.

For three years, Weigle wrestled with his faith and sorrow. He questioned whether anyone cared for him during his darkest moments. His wife’s death marked the end of this period of despair.

Amid his pain, Weigle found solace in his faith. He experienced a profound realization of Jesus’ love for him. This revelation inspired him to say, “Jesus, no one ever cared for me like You.” He composed the hymn in just twenty minutes, capturing his renewed faith and gratitude.

Today, a Christian couple, Sheri and Cleason, are performing a beautiful rendition of ‘No One Ever Cared For Me Like Jesus.’

God’s love is unmatched. Even when we feel alone, we can trust that God cares for us more than anyone else.
