The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 on Sunday at Super Bowl LIX in Caesars Superdome, New Orleans. More than just a game, it became a platform for many players to glorify the name of God.
God continues to work through professional athletes who boldly share their faith in public. The 2025 Super Bowl showed us many NFL players and coaches putting God above everything else in their interviews, pregame and postgame talks, even in loss and win.
Eagles Head Coach Nick Sirianni
Coach Sirianni set the tone during the Lombardi Trophy presentation. He started his speech with “All glory to God.” Later, while talking to Fox Sports reporter Tom Rinaldi, Sirianni spoke from his heart:
“God’s blessed us very much. He gave us all the talents to be able to get here, so first and foremost, thanks to Him… Thank God, thank you Jesus.”

Eagles MVP Quarterback Jalen Hurts
Jalen Hurts led the Eagles to victory with an outstanding performance. He completed 17 of 22 passes and scored two touchdowns, earning him the Super Bowl MVP award.
His 2024 season showed his growth as a player: 2,903 passing yards, 18 touchdown passes, only five interceptions, and his best passer rating ever at 103.7. He also ran for 630 yards and scored 14 rushing touchdowns.
After receiving the Pete Rozelle Trophy, Hurts said, “God is good — He’s greater than all the highs and the lows.”

Before the big game, he shared with Sports Spectrum about his faith journey: “My faith has always been a part of me. I’ve always wanted to root myself in that and keep Him in the center of my life and everything that I do.”
Hurts finds strength in John 13:7: “Jesus replied, ‘You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.’” This verse holds special meaning for him after his path from Alabama to Oklahoma and now his NFL success.
Eagles chaplain Ted Winsley noticed Hurts’ spiritual growth this season, noting his regular attendance at Bible study and growing as a spiritual leader with help from teammate Brandon Graham.
On Monday night, Hurts shared more about his faith: “It’s where I center everything. That’s where it all comes from, you know? God is greater than any high or low… You have to maintain a strong faith in the midst of everything. You’re going to have your joys, you’re going to have your pains, but they’re all the same in the end. It’s about what you learn from it. It’s about what you root yourself in.”

Chiefs Quarterback Patrick Mahomes
Even in defeat, Patrick Mahomes kept his focus on God: “It’s important to me every single day. It’s not about football, it’s just giving glory to God for being able to walk around and live my life, to have a beautiful family, to be able to have the impact on others and I’m going to use that stage and that platform win or lose to give glory back to Him, to hopefully bring others closer to Him.”

Chiefs Wide Receiver Justin Watson
Watson shared his pregame prayer routine: “Each day and especially each game I just say ‘God use me for your glory’ and that doesn’t mean winning football games always but just to be in a position and this platform and knowing it’s by His grace and His providence is just, is just know that He’s treating me much better than anything I deserve.”

Eagles Tight End Dallas Goedert
Goedert thanked his mother for his faith foundation: “I believe. I’m a Christian, and it’s so, it’s so important to have a solid foundation and that, my mom instilled that in me. And you know all credit goes out to Him. And you know I’m so blessed that He’s been giving me this opportunity you know to show the skills that He gave me on such a big platform.”
Eagles Linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Trotter Jr. spoke about God’s help during tough times: “There’s been times I’ve had injuries, I’ve been out for like a year, for the season, and I have to come back harder, come back from those, recovered from that. I feel like those have been really tough but God really got me through it.”

The gospel is reaching at rocket speed to all corners of the earth. We are seeing continuing revivals everywhere – in colleges, in professional sports, and among our youth.
All these signs point to what Jesus told His disciples about His return: the gospel will reach all parts of the earth before He comes again.
We are nearer to the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Let us prepare ourselves as brides to welcome the Groom.
Let us pray for these NFL players who boldly proclaim their faith on national television, that God will continue to use them powerfully to spread His message of hope and salvation to millions around the world.
