Fountainview Academy is a Christian high school based in southern British Columbia, Canada, students come here from all parts of the world to get a quality Christian education.

“Must Jesus Bear the Cross Alone” was written by Thomas Shepherd (1665-1739), he tied his original poem to Simon of Cyrene who, according to Matthew 27:32, was compelled to carry Jesus’ cross on the way to Golgotha.

Must Jesus bear the cross alone,
And all the world go free?
No, there’s a cross for everyone,
And there’s a cross for me.

Thomas Shepherd served as Vicar of Tilbrook, Bedfordshire, and though he took Holy Orders and served for a time in Huntingdonshire and in Buckinghamshire, he eventually became pastor of the Castle Hill Meeting House in Nottingham in 1694. He later moved to Bocking, near Braintree, Essex, where he began a parish there. The congregation erected a chapel in 1707, and Shepherd remained with this church until the end of his life.

How happy are the saints above,
Who once went sorr’wing here!
But now they taste unmingled love,
And joy without a tear.

1 Peter 2:24 “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”

Verse of the Day

“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.”

Luke 2:8-11
