Living through an entire century would have resulted in some wonderful memories for Elsie Shepherd who was celebrating her 100th birthday earlier this week, but the centenarian’s sweet reaction when a chivalrous Mountie stepped forward to grant her birthday wish is winning many hearts online.
Elsie’s nursing home in Regina were hosting a celebratory party for her at the facility, among the invitees were her family members and Shepherd asked if police officers could be at the celebration, so the nursing home called the RCMP Depot Division and requested if Mounties could come to the party.
It gave Shepherd great joy and happiness when she saw Cpl. Daryl Chernoff and three other police officers turn up at birthday celebration. Chernoff heard Shepherd say that she wanted to dance, and he helped make her wish come true.
Chernoff asked Shepherd and her family permission to dance with her, after they accepted, he took her hand and led her onto the floor. He says, “She was ear-to-ear smiles,” Chernoff says, “I was able to take her out to the dance floor and we had a conversation there and you could see the smile on her face, she just couldn’t stop.”
The video of them dancing has been uploaded by the RCMP on their Facebook page, which has garnered many thousands of views till now.
