The lyrics to Laura’s new song “I Give Up” are so encouraging and remind us of God’s never ending love for us.
I belong I belong
To the maker of earth and seas
Who’s as rich as a King
Yet so gentle and kind towards me
I am not cared for by a servant hired
But a Shepherd who would leave the ninety-nineSo when I give up I gain
When I let go of having my own way
When I learn to see my surrender as a brand new start
To know the fullness of my Father’s heart
The backstory to the song is an emotional one shared by her as a devotional to the song. She says that when she was pregnant with her fourth child, she was informed that he would have a cleft lip. It reminded her in a startling way that she was not in control of her pregnancy, or anything. This incident inspired her to write the song ‘I Give Up.’
She says that when her son was born. “On March 20, 2018, our family welcomed Timothy William into the world, and he had the biggest and most beautiful cleft lip smile we had ever seen. And we were immediately in love! Even post-surgery, his smile brings tears to my eyes, and not just because my heart is so full of love for him. His smile always reminds me that I don’t have to be in control of everything, and I don’t have to always know how it’s all going to turn out. I don’t have to know, because I know the One who does, and I will continue, each day, to put my faith in Him. And day by day, I will learn to give up.”
Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
