The Gaither Vocal Band and Ladye Love Smith performed ‘Burdens Are Lifted At Calvary’ live at the Gaither studios.
Ladye Love Smith and her husband, Reggie, have been part of the Gaither homecoming. Initially, they were backup singers in Nashville. Later, they performed vocal duets and became regular features at many Homecoming concerts and recordings.
‘Burdens Are Lifted At Calvary’ was written by John Moore, inspired by a visit to see a severely injured man in the hospital. He told the man a story from Pilgrim’s Progress about how the main character—Christian—was able to rid himself of his heavy burden the moment he drew near to the cross of Jesus. The man gave his life to Christ.
Days are filled with sorrow and care (sorrow and care)
Hearts are lonely and drear
Burdens are Lifted at Calvary
Jesus is very nearBurdens are lifted at calvary (lifted at Calvary)
Calvary (lifted at Calvary), Calvary (lifted at Calvary)
Burdens are lifted at calvary (lifted at Calvary)
Jesus is very near
Our burdens can be anything—a sinful habit, a broken conscience, a desperate search for true love, poor health, or financial status. Whatever our burden, the master says, “Come to me, and I will give you rest.” He is ready to accept you as you are, forgive and restore you, and make you a whole person again. Hallelujah.
