Police Officer Responds to “Noise” Coming From Dumpster and Saves a Life

Police officers often face tough challenges, but sometimes their job lets them be real-life heroes in unexpected ways.

While many of us would just pass by a noisy dumpster without a second thought, a hospital worker’s curiosity made all the difference. The worker heard a concerning noise and promptly called the police. An officer from the Carilion police came to check. What he found was heartbreaking: a tiny 6-week-old kitten, specifically a Tuxedo Cat, trapped inside a paper bag. The bag had been cruelly tossed into the dumpster, leaving the kitten in a life-threatening position.

The officer acted swiftly, rescuing the kitten and rushing him to Carilion Clinic for medical care. The little survivor, now named Toby, was later placed under the care of the Angels of Assisi animal shelter in Roanoke, Virginia. There, a loving foster family took Toby in, giving him the care he needed as he waits for a permanent home.

The story of Toby’s rescue was shared on the Angels of Assisi’s Facebook page and quickly caught the attention of many. Users expressed both shock and gratitude. One commenter stated, “Unreal!! People are so cruel and sick.” Another added, “Thanks to the kind officer and the Carilion people who called him! So glad you saved that sweet kitty!”

Stories like Toby’s show the worst and best of humanity. Someone heartlessly discarded him, but others—from the attentive hospital worker to the diligent officer to the caring shelter workers—stepped up to save and care for him.

Whoever is righteous has regard for the life of his beast, but the mercy of the wicked is cruel.” – Proverbs 12:10.
