Julio Melendez who lives in the Florida Keys, lost everything to Hurricane Irma except his truck, which has now become his home. He uses his truck to gather, store, and deliver supplies. Recently Lozano, a worker of Friends For Global Change approached Melendez with a gift. She gave the man an air mattress so that he could sleep more comfortably. But he wasn’t interested in keeping it. Then Melendez told her
“I am giving this air mattress to someone else in need. There are so many people that don’t have transportation and they can’t come to get water so I come to get them what they need. I am delivering what I can to them and I sleep in my car. God Bless everyone. I am fine, I will be fine! There are people worse off than me…. as long as I have my truck I have everything I need. Thanks to God!”
Melendez’s words moved Lozano to tears. She shared the touching moment on Facebook and it inspired many people to join Melendez in his generous relief efforts. Friends For Global Change created a GoFundMe to raise money for a new mobile home for Melendez and it raised 24,450 dollars of its 50,000 goal in just two days. God bless this man.
