Claire and Dave Crosby beautifully perform classic Christian hymn ‘Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me.’
Edward Hopper, the author of ‘Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me,’ served as a pastor in New York and dedicated much of his ministry to sailors. Born in 1818, he became known for his work at the ‘Church of Sea and Land’ located by New York Harbor.
Hopper wrote this hymn anonymously for the spiritual needs of seafaring men, and for a long time, his identity as the author remained a secret. The hymn, deeply meaningful especially to young people seeking God’s will for their lives, became a favorite among sailors and has been included in nearly every evangelical hymnal published to the present time.
‘Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me’ was first published in the Sailor’s Magazine and Seaman’s Friend in March 1871, upon request by George S. Webster, the secretary of the Seaman’s Friend Society.
Years later, this timeless hymn found new life through Claire Crosby and her dad, Dave. Claire, who captured hearts worldwide at just three years old with her Disney song performance, continues to enchant audiences with her vocal talents.
In the simple setting of a living room and with the gentle strumming of a ukulele, the Crosby duo the Crosby duo delivers a heartfelt rendition of ‘Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me.’
