Jesus is the Son of God, and His existence is right from the beginning of creation. However, many do not believe that Jesus was there when God the Father created the world. They think His existence began when He was born by Mary into the world, but the Bible clearly explains to us that He was present right from the creation of the universe.
Was Jesus Present During God’s Creation?
From the Old Testament to the New Testament, the word of God reveals that Jesus and His Father are one, and they are together right from the creation. These reasons help us understand that Jesus is there right from the beginning of God’s creation.
1. Jesus Is The Word Of God
John 1:1 tells us, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Jesus is the word of God. This gives us the insight that He was with God from the beginning of creation. He is the spoken word of His Father, who is the beginning and the end of all things.
When the Jews questioned Jesus about His authority, He boldly declared His eternal nature to them. In John 8:58, Jesus answered them saying, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” This statement shows us that Jesus existed even before Abraham was born. Jesus was not afraid to tell the truth about His eternal existence, even though it angered the religious leaders.
The triune God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – existed together before anything was created. Jesus, as the Word, was there when God spoke everything into existence. His presence at creation shows us His divine nature and His eternal relationship with the Father.
2. Nothing Was Made Without Him
The Bible clearly states that Jesus was essential in creation. John 1:3 tells us, “All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” This means everything that exists came into being through Jesus.
God never intended to create anything without His Son’s involvement. Every star, planet, plant, and creature came into existence through Jesus. This same Jesus would later come to earth as our Savior because creation needed His redemption.
Just as nothing in the physical world was made without Jesus, our salvation could not happen without Him. The blood of animals could never take away our sins completely. We needed Jesus, the perfect Lamb of God, to die for us. His blood alone has the power to save us from our sins and make us new creatures in Him.
3. He Is The Life And Light Of Creation
Jesus brings both life and light to all creation. John 1:4 says, “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.” When God said “Let there be light” at creation, Jesus was that light coming into the world.
Through Jesus, all creation received the breath of life. He is the source of all physical and spiritual life. Nothing can live or exist without Him. His light continues to shine in the darkness of this world, and as John 1:5 tells us, “And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”
When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, His light begins to shine in our lives. No darkness can overcome this light because Jesus is stronger than any darkness we face. His presence in our lives brings the same creative power that formed the universe.
4. He Continues To Sustain All Creation
Jesus not only created all things, but He also keeps everything working together. Colossians 1:17 tells us, “He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.” This means Jesus actively holds together every atom, every cell, and every galaxy in the universe.
Hebrews 1:3 gives us an even clearer picture of Jesus’ role in sustaining creation: “who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power.” This powerful verse shows us that Jesus upholds, or carries along, the entire universe by His mighty word. The same word that created all things continues to sustain all things.
His role in creation didn’t end when everything was made. He continues to sustain all life and keep the universe in order. This same Jesus who holds the stars in place also holds our lives in His hands.
This truth helps us understand how powerful and eternal Jesus is. He is not just the baby in the manger or the man on the cross. He is the eternal Son of God, present from the beginning, creating and sustaining all things.
