Jason “Sundance” Head, who won Season 11 of NBC’s ‘The Voice’, is thanking God for saving his life after surviving an accidental gunshot.
Every day, we experience God’s love and protection in ways we might not even notice. We don’t know what will happen next, but we do know that we have a faithful God who always walks with us to keep us safe.
When someone walks away from what could have been a fatal accident, the world may see it as luck, but we know it’s God’s mercy at work.
The 46 year old singer was preparing for a camping trip on November 15 when things went terribly wrong. He had his .22 caliber revolver sitting in a quick draw holster in the passenger seat of his Jeep.
The holster didn’t have a strap to keep the gun secure. When Head turned to walk away, the revolver fell out, hit the doorjamb, and fired.
The bullet struck his stomach but God had other plans. It missed all his vital organs and got stuck in the fatty tissue instead. Head knew he was in trouble when he reached for his phone and found his pockets were already filled with blood.
Even with this serious injury, he managed to run and jump over a fence to get to Highway 84 for help.
Cars kept passing by as Head waited desperately for help. Finally, someone stopped. “He was like an angel from heaven,” Head said. “I was never so glad to see somebody in my life.” This help came right when Head felt he “was bleeding out” and might not make it.
His wife Misty turned to social media right away, asking fellow believers to pray for her husband. The medical team flew Head to UT Health Tyler hospital where they worked fast to save him.
During these scary moments, Head felt God’s presence. “I saw the light, man, and I really thought I was dying,” he told ET Online. “I just prayed a lot and I felt super peaceful.”
Head comes from a musical family. His father is rockabilly singer Roy Head. Before winning ‘The Voice’ on Blake Shelton’s team, he had made it to the Top 16 on ‘American Idol’ Season 7. His blind audition on ‘The Voice’ with Otis Redding’s ‘I’ve Been Loving You Too Long’ had impressed everyone.
Now at home recovering, Head can’t stop thanking God and everyone who helped save his life. “I want to tell everyone thank you for praying for me and my family,” he said.
The experience has left him in awe of God’s goodness. “I feel like the Lord has blessed me just beyond I can even comprehend.” Misty put it simply: “God is awesome.”
God never promises us a life without problems, but He does promise to be with us through them all. Head’s story shows us how God can turn a tragic moment into a testimony of His faithfulness. Let’s keep praying for Jason’s complete healing.
