Isaiah Case, a worship pastor from Jacksonville, Illinois, captured hearts on Season 22 of American Idol with his heartfelt original song during audition.
Serving in his church where his father is also a pastor, Isaiah’s life is deeply intertwined with his faith. He and his wife, Anna, are parents to a young son and expect another child soon.
Isaiah’s music is heavily influenced by country artists like Chris Stapleton, which was evident in his audition song, ‘What Could I Do,’ co-written with his family.
The judges, including Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan, praised Isaiah’s performance. Perry was particularly touched, saying, “That’s a really cool song, also just like the first verse I was very in, it’s a feeling that everyone has…when they are not living right.”
Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan praised his unique, powerful voice, setting him apart from typical worship leaders’ smooth vocals. Their unanimous yes sent Isaiah to Hollywood, a significant milestone in his journey.
Isaiah had tried to get on “American Idol” five years earlier but didn’t make it to the judges’ round. His recent opportunity came after a producer saw him singing on TikTok, showcasing how modern technology can change an artist’s career.
His family and community in Jacksonville celebrated his success. Anna described the moment as “insane” with excitement, while Isaiah’s parents expressed pride not only in his talent but in his character. “God always goes before him,” said Isaiah’s father, Perry.
His mother, Kristi, added, “I’m definitely proud of his talent… but through this process, he’s kept his connection with God and has given God all the glory for everything he’s doing.”
Isaiah feels grateful for the support and sees his journey on “American Idol” as a blessing. “Getting the opportunity to do all of this has definitely been an eye-opener,” he said. Isaiah is optimistic about his future, “I’m just excited for whatever God has in store for me in my life.”
