Caleb and Kelsey sing a beautiful rendition of the well-known Christian hymn, ‘I Surrender All (All I Am).’
I Surrender All hymn story
The hymn was originally written by American art teacher and musician Judson W. Van DeVenter, who later became a music minister and evangelist. The music was composed by Winfield S. Weeden and was first published in 1896.
All to Jesus I surrender
All to Him I freely give
I will ever love and trust Him
In His presence daily live
Judson Van DeVenter was born in 1855, graduated from Hillsdale College, and became an art teacher in the public schools of Sharon, Pennsylvania. As an accomplished musician, singer, and composer, he also served in his Methodist Episcopal Church. Despite being urged by his friends to become an evangelist, he initially resisted. Finally, he fully surrendered his life to God and wrote the hymn, ‘I Surrender All.’
All to Jesus I surrender
Humbly at His feet I bow
Worldly pleasures all forsaken
Take me Jesus take me now
Van DeVenter published more than 60 hymns, but “I Surrender All” is his most famous. His tombstone is inscribed with the words of this beloved hymn.
I surrender all
I surrender all
All to Thee my blessed Saviour
I surrender all
Today, as Caleb and Kelsey sing a beautiful duet of this classic song, which fits perfectly with the times we are currently living in, we are reminded to surrender everything to Jesus—our lives, our anxiety, and our fears—because His love and grace are all that we need now.
