A chance encounter between homeless man Danny and worship artist Carlos Whittaker in Atlanta created a powerful worship moment during the filming of ‘God of Second Chances.’
God brings people together in unexpected ways that show His perfect timing. These meetings remind us that true worship comes from the heart, regardless of our life situation.
In 2009, Carlos was filming his EPK (Electronic Press Kit) in an Atlanta park when Danny walked into the scene. As Carlos played ‘God of Second Chances’ on his guitar, Danny dropped to his knees, raised his hands, and began to worship with tears streaming down his face.
The moment was real and unplanned. Danny lifted his voice in spontaneous worship, singing his own words from his heart. What started as a planned music video shoot transformed into a spirit-filled praise and worship.
Danny’s response to Carlos struck deep. When Carlos told him to “keep trying to make it,” Danny looked him straight in the eyes and said, “Trying to make it? No man. I ain’t trying to make it… I’m making it.”
He then shared his view on God’s purpose: “Jah puts His soldiers everywhere. Jah says, ‘Yea though you walk through the valley of the shadow of death.’ So He places some of us, in that valley.”
The two men spent 30 minutes talking after their worship time. Carlos wanted to help Danny and got his phone number. He also learned Danny often visited the park. But the phone number didn’t work, and when Carlos returned to the park, no one there knew Danny.
Carlos spent four years trying to find Danny. He wanted to take him on tour, record another version of the song, and help him off the streets. Even now, Carlos visits that same park bench in Atlanta, hoping to see Danny again.
In a 2013 social media update, Carlos wrote: “Sometimes the Lord gives us moments, for the moment alone, and not for what we think we should do with the moment.”
Their worship video continues to touch lives, proving how God uses brief meetings to impact others.
