An elderly Gaston County couple will finally be able to have a good night’s rest after a business offered to repair their leaky roof.

Wade and Louise Lunsford were unable to repair their deteriorating roof, which leaked whenever it would rain. They would have to resort to using makeshift tubs to catch the rainwater.

Louise Lunsford says, “We’d have to get up at four, five o’clock in the morning and empty it when it’s starting to get filled up.

One of their relatives decided to do something about their plight and set up a GoFundMe page for them. It ultimately caught the attention of Brandon Johnson, who owns Southern Star Roofing and Construction. He offered to replace the couple’s roof for free.

Johnson says, “Someone once said, ‘If you take care of God’s business, he’ll take care of yours. We just felt prompted to come out and serve our community.”

ABC Supply provided the construction materials while Providence Restoration repaired the water damage inside the house.

Wade Lunsford says, “It’s just overwhelming, really, the kindness of people.”

Johnson has thrown the challenge to other business owners to also help their communities, as he says, “Step up; reach out; pay it forward,” Johnson said. “I think if we’re blessed with those kinds of resources, it’s our job to give it back.”

Yes that’s true and we are inspired by what Johnson has done for this elderly couple. May other business owners and wealthy individuals also step up and bless their communities likewise.
