At Folsom Field, 54,000 University of Colorado football fans stopped watching the game to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to their devoted superfan who turns 100 years old, bringing her to tears during the Buffaloes’ win over Utah Utes.
For over 80 years, Peggy Coppom has shown what it means to be a true fan of the Colorado Buffaloes. She started going to home games in the 1940s with her twin sister Betty, and they became famous for wearing matching yellow-and-black outfits to every game. Even after Betty passed away in 2020, Peggy kept coming to cheer for her team.
During the November 16 game, while the Buffaloes were on their way to beating Utah 49-24 under their new coach Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders, something special happened.
The stadium announcer took a moment to tell everyone about an upcoming birthday. Then, as if on cue, all 54,000 fans joined their voices to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Miss Peggy.
If you watch the video of this moment, you’ll see Peggy’s face light up with surprise. She puts her hand over her mouth, and then the tears start flowing as she takes in this amazing gift – thousands of people taking time during a big game to celebrate her 100 years of life.
