A baby turtle floating helplessly while tangled in a plastic net was freed by three fishermen in a heartwarming moment.
The seamen had gone over to check what the pile of rubbish was that was floating off the coast of Dundee near Darwin, Northern Territory.
To their surprise it was a baby sea turtle and not garbage, ‘Usually, there’s some fish that hang around on the floating debris so we thought we’d got for a look,’ rescuer Rhys Shearer said.
‘We saw it was moving and there was a little turtle caught in it.’ They were shocked to see the turtle with all four fins tangled in the net.
They cut it free from the garbage around it and released the baby turtle back into the ocean which swam away.
‘We were all very wrapped. All high-five-ing and stoked,’ Mr Shearer said.
When the video of the heartwarming moment was shared on social media people rushed to congratulate them.
