The song takes us to that day on Calvary where three crosses stood. While three men died that day, the song reminds us that only Jesus’s death had the power to save us from our sins.
He chose to die for us – it was not forced upon Him. As the song says, He took all our sins and shame upon Himself.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16).
