The COVID-19 lockdown has caused the poor and elderly to suffer the most due to a shortage of food and supplies especially in developing countries.
Even as the Philippines is in lockdown for weeks now, aid is being given to all those struggling to meet daily needs, and one elderly man surprised volunteers when he asked for a new Bible instead of relief goods.
The story which has been circulated on social media by Facebook username Dyn Nah said that in a country full of citizens calling for relief aid, “here’s to this man” who is looking for a replacement of his torn bible.
The man said, “Miss, do you have a new Bible? Can I have one?” Dyn Nah remarked that it was her first time encountering such a heart.
“May we be reminded that in this crisis, it is not only about the material things we need but also HIS Word as we walk and go through in everyday challenges of life,” Dyn Nah wrote.
She further added Matthew 4:4, “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.”
Many people were moved by this elderly man’s desire for God’s Word.
Dyn Nah posted an update of the man’s case on Sunday. He was given not just one, but two new Bibles with a version of his own language. “When God gave you more than you asked,” she said. She thanked the donor of the Bible while giving glory and praise to God!
Dyn Nah was working with a team in their community to reach out to the locals in the hinterlands of The Philippines. Their experience “allowed them to see the unseen situations of people in the mountain.”
What this man has done is indeed remarkable, instead of asking for physical food, he asked for the everlasting word of God which stands forever. May God supply all his needs. Amen.
