Diners at a McDonald’s were treated to heavenly singing by an elderly choir on the African-American spiritual song, ‘Down by the Riverside.’
‘Down By the Riverside’ was sung by slaves in the South during work during the American Civil War.
Goin’ to lay down my burden,
Down by the riverside,
Down by the riverside,
Down by the riverside;
Goin’ to lay down my burden,
Down by the riverside,
to study war no more.
‘Down By the Riverside’ is also known by other names like ‘Ain’ Go’n to Study War No Mo,” “Going to Pull My War-Clothes,” and “Ain’t Gwine to Study War No More.”
The song has been covered by many artists like Elvis Presley, Louis Armstrong, Van Morrison, Nat King Cole, and choirs like the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
I ain’t goin’ to study war no more,
ain’t goin’ to study war no more,
ain’t goin’ to study war no more.
I ain’t goin’ to study war no more,
ain’t goin’ to study war no more,
ain’t goin’ to study war no more.
In this video, some of the elderly men’s faces are not visible as they were not aware they were being recorded and sat with their backs to the videographer, but their angelic voices were a delight to listen to.
The elderly choir sounds like they’ve been practicing this song for years as it is a flawless performance from them and they sing calmly and solemnly with no hand gestures and chair dancing.
They certainly added a lot of flavor to McDonald’s that day and we believe their song must have touched the hearts of the diners there as well.
Psalm 137 1 “By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.”
