Utah Mother Empowers Son with Down Syndrome Through Daily Affirmations

In Utah, Melanie and her young son Hudson, who has Down syndrome, have started a daily routine that is both touching and impactful. Every day, they stand in front of a mirror and say positive affirmations together.

Down Syndrome positive affirmations

Life is not always fair, and some face more challenges than others. It’s important to make the most of the blessings we receive. This is exactly what Melanie and Hudson do every day. Before Hudson started preschool, they began to look into the mirror together and affirm positive statements about themselves. These include phrases like, “I am smart,” “I am beautiful,” and “I am loved.”

This ritual has empowered Hudson so much that he now says these affirmations on his own. Melanie shared a touching example during their appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show. She recalled a moment in a grocery store when Hudson started affirming out loud, “I am strong” and “I am smart,” without any prompt from her.

Everyone is created with a purpose and is dearly loved by God. By teaching Hudson these affirmations, Melanie ensures he grows up knowing he is valuable and loved, both by his family and by God.
