A family dog became a hero when it bit a would-be kidnapper, saving a 10-year-old girl from abduction in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Dogs truly are our best friends. They love us with their whole hearts and will do anything to keep us safe. Time and again, we hear stories of dogs jumping into action when their families face danger.
This Wilmington dog did exactly that – putting itself between a child and harm without a second thought.
The terrifying incident happened on Monday evening around 6:30 p.m. on North Harrison Street. Police said that a man tried to abduct the young girl, but her dog jumped into action. The brave pet bit the attacker, who immediately fled the scene.
Thankfully, the girl wasn’t hurt. Police continue to search for the suspect and ask the public to share any information that could help find him.
The incident shocked the neighborhood. “Kids come out here to play. A lot of kids walk and stuff around here. It’s nothing like that. It’s crime but not trying to kidnap a kid. That’s crazy,” said Regina Johnson, who was visiting a nearby park.
Some parents in the area stress the importance of watching children closely. Genevieve Congo shared, “That’s just the type of parent that I am. I watch my kids all the time. I don’t just let them come to the park by theirselves because you just never know.”
This dog’s quick action likely saved the girl from a terrible outcome. Without hesitation, the pet put itself between danger and its young owner. The dog did what dogs do best—protect their family with courage and devotion.
We must stay alert and teach our children about safety especially when a stranger interacts with them. This faithful dog reminds us that God provides guardians in unexpected forms.
May we all pray for the safety of our kids and ask for God’s protection over them wherever they go.
