It’s not every day that a bride gets to walk down the aisle with the father of her organ donor, her life saver. It was an extra special day for Diana Donnarumma Kreher not only because she’s marrying the man she loves the most, but also because she’s celebrating another shot at life. She is the recipient of Heather Donnely’s small and large intestines.
“Every day, I live my life to try to honor this amazing person who saved my life,” Diana said. She did just that when she called Daniel Donnely to thank him for selflessly donating her daughter’s organs to save her. This simple act turned out to be a game changer! Heather was just one year older than Diana and is the perfect match as an organ donor for her. Aside from that, she was about to get married before she died. Unfortunately, Daniel was not able to walk her down the aisle anymore. That’s when Diana grabbed the opportunity to ask him if she can have the honor of letting him walk her down the aisle. Without hesitation, Daniel immediately said YES!
It was a touching and exceptional moment when Daniel and Diana walked down the aisle. Diana was almost in tears especially when he turned her over to her real dad to complete the walk down the aisle. Daniel also complimented her as a beautiful bride. He could have probably, envisioned her daughter walking down the aisle with him as well. Definitely, this one was a walk to remember not only for Diana, but also for their guests. “I had a great time at the wedding. It was a blast. I was watching Diana at the dance floor, dancing it up. And picturing my daughter out there doing the same thing”, Daniel expressed his delight in an interview.
According to Inside Edition, in the US alone, 107,000 patients are still waiting for organ transplants. May they also find people like Daniel who still chose to love and give even in the most painful time of his life. May this be a reminder to all of us of the ultimate sacrifice God made. He gave up His one and only Son to save us, undeniably, because of love.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
