A Delta Airlines plane with 80 people on board turned upside down while landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday, but in what experts call a miracle, everyone lived through the crash.
When we hear about plane crashes, our hearts sink because we know how deadly they usually are. But this event at Toronto airport shows us that God’s power has no limits.
Whether we are in the air or on the ground, God watches over His children, and sometimes He chooses to show His presence through miracles that leave even experts amazed.
The accident happened Monday afternoon when Delta Flight 4819 tried to land after leaving Minneapolis at 11:47 a.m. Greg Feith, former senior air safety investigator, said the plane probably bounced while landing, making the pilots lose control.
The wings broke off during the crash, which turned out to be lifesaving. According to Feith, when the wings separated, the jet fuel dispersed instead of igniting, and the wings absorbed most of the impact.
The main body of the plane stayed in one piece, keeping everyone inside safe, even though a small fire started.
One of the survivors was Father Joal Bernales, a priest from the Philippines, who was going to Toronto to visit his family. “For me, it’s really a miracle. I would see everything in the perspective, of course, of faith, in God’s eyes,” Bernales said. He believes all 80 passengers and crew “still have a mission in life to finish in God’s time, God’s purpose.”
Emergency teams took 21 people to nearby hospitals. By Tuesday morning, Delta Airlines CEO Ed Bastian said 19 of them had gone home.
Two retired pilots, Michael Coffield and Richard Levy, called it a “miracle.” Coffield said, “People don’t walk away from upside down plane crashes. This is incredible. I believe there was some divine intervention here.”
Aviation consultant J.F. Joseph explained that wind conditions made landing difficult because “no two crosswinds are alike; they are dynamic. That presents additional challenges to the pilot.”
This survival story stands out because of recent plane crashes. In January, 67 people died when a passenger plane hit an Army helicopter over the Potomac River.
Six people died in a medical plane crash in Philadelphia, and two more died in a Georgia woods crash.
A private plane owned by Mötley Crüe’s singer Vince Neil also crashed, killing one person and hurting Rain Hannah Andreani.
We are alive today not because of our own strength or wisdom, but only because of God’s endless love and protection. Let us keep praying and submit our lives daily into His mighty hands. He alone can protect us from all evil.
Please pray for the complete healing of those who were injured, and thank God for His miraculous protection of everyone aboard.
