Boy With Down Syndrome Can’t Contain His Joy When He Receives School Kindness Award

A graduation ceremony at Mill Creek Middle School, Georgia for their eighth-graders turned out to be extraordinary.

The school went above and beyond to as it recognized a student with Down syndrome.

15-year-old, Christopher Yancy, was born with Down syndrome, he was chosen to receive the school’s Kindness Award.

Yancy’s adorable reaction on receiving the award has been captured on camera. As soon as his name was called out, he jumped up from his chair with excitement.

While going to the stage, he gave his fellow students high fives, and on stage, he greeted his school’s teachers with a smile and high fives as well.

You can see the students jumping and dancing for joy on the stage. His audience of eighth-graders were jubilant as he received the award. He acknowledged them with an excited shout and wave.

His mom, Brenda Page, was feeling very proud of her son for being chosen as the kindest kid in school.

Page said, “It touches my heart that he got it for kindness. It means more to me than straight A’s or perfect attendance.”

She said that her son wakes up with a smile on his face everyday. She asks how many people can say that their teenager is always happy?

Christopher joined special-needs classes at Mill Creek Middle School and will be in high school following his graduation celebration.

“He was so excited,” Page said. “He kept saying, ‘Mommy, I’m graduated!’”

Page feels grateful to all fellow students of Christopher’s who show love to him.

“He loves people, and I just think that’s wonderful,” Page said. “I’m so blessed to have so many students embrace him and love him back. Not just the students, but the parents.”
