Hollywood star, Chris Pratt, best known for roles in “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Jurassic World”, has often been vocal about his Christian faith. This openness, in an industry often seen as secular, has not gone without criticism and controversy. Yet, Pratt remains steadfast and unapologetic, showcasing an inspiring adherence to his beliefs.
At a recent screening for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” Pratt faced the topic head-on, acknowledging the criticisms over his faith. In his words, “That’s nothing new, you know. If I was of this world, they would love me just like that but, as it is, I’ve chosen out of this world. That’s John 15:18-20.”
He further emphasized the age-old persecution of Christian beliefs, saying, “That’s the way it is, nothing new — 2,000 years ago, they hated [Jesus], too.” Pratt’s reference to biblical scripture and his equating of the contemporary disdain for his faith with historical persecution of Christ, cements his place as a Hollywood figure unafraid to openly embrace his Christian faith.
When asked about his approach to dealing with the constant criticism, Pratt offered a resilient metaphor, “Like a rhino, stick your head down, you keep driving forward, you have thick skin.” A testament to his enduring faith, Pratt seems to handle criticisms with the same tenacity he applies to his craft.
His faith journey was further highlighted during a recent appearance on Drew Barrymore’s talk show. He opened up about his personal connection with God and how it has influenced his life, including his relationship with his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger. He said, “My own journey, finding a higher power and leaning on that and being like, ‘Please save me,’ and then feeling saved, and then shortly later finding the woman of my dreams.”
Earlier this year, Pratt stirred conversations with an Instagram post referencing his 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards speech, where he spoke fervently of God’s love for humanity. Despite the mixed reactions, he remained unapologetic, stating he wouldn’t change a thing if given a chance to do it again.
However, Pratt’s faith has not been without its controversy. In 2019, rumors circulated that he attended an anti-LGBTQ+ church. Pratt refuted these claims emphatically, stating, “I go to a church that opens their doors to absolutely everyone.” He also affirmed, “My faith is important to me, but no church defines me or my life.”
In a Men’s Health interview last year, he stated, “I’m not a religious person,” sparking intrigue about his intended meaning. It’s plausible that he was highlighting the significance of his relationship with Jesus and the Bible over religious structures.
Chris Pratt’s journey illustrates the struggle and resilience of maintaining one’s faith, especially in an environment where it might not be the norm. Despite the scrutiny, Pratt shows that faith can be an unshakeable foundation, a source of strength amidst criticism. His narrative serves as a beacon to many, echoing the age-old truth — faith, indeed, can move mountains.
