‘Carol of the Bells’ tells the story of bells ringing to announce Jesus’s birth. When Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych wrote it in 1914, it was actually a New Year’s carol called ‘Shchedryk.’ Peter J. Wilhousky later added English lyrics in 1936, turning it into the Christmas carol we sing today.

The song’s four-note pattern and building harmonies make it perfect for the joy and excitement of Christmas, which is why it has touched so many hearts over the years.

What makes Castellucci’s version special is how he used just his bass voice to create something totally new. In the video, we see five Castelluccis – all wearing the same outfit – singing different parts that come together perfectly.

Castellucci’s deep voice brings something different to this familiar carol, making it sound almost like rolling thunder.

Many people on YouTube were wowed by Castellucci’s bass version of ‘Carol of the Bells.’ One viewer on YouTube wrote “Geoff’s voice could cut down a Christmas Tree and make it decorate itself.”

Another person commented, “After this, I think Geoff deserves to rename the song from Carol of the Bells to Thunder of the Bells!”

“[The Birth of Jesus Foretold] In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.””
