Basketball player, Cameron Johnson recently shared why he wears jersey number 23 during a press conference held relating to the upcoming season. The 25-year-old sports star spoke about how his family and an amazing role model had inspired him to wear this number.

Johnson said he always has been a big Jordan fan but the reason why he wears the number 23 has to do with his grandmother. “My grandma, she’s a prayer warrior to the fullest extent.”

He said that it was his grandmother who told his father to use Psalm 23 every time he would go into a game, competition, or important meeting and he instilled it into him.

“So Psalm 23 has been a verse I’ve always said before every game and then I say now during the national anthems. I’ve said it during the national anthems since high school but it’s the reason I wear 23. I was also a huge fan Jordan fan growing up so 23 is a huge number of significance to me.”

Psalm 23 is such a powerful and deep scripture and it was David’s testimony to the protection that God provided him at all times in his life. It speaks of the Lord leading him and guiding him through the green pastures, still waters, dark valleys, enemies and adversities.

Johnson has worn the number 13 when he played basketball for the University of North Carolina but resumed wearing the number 23 after he signed up with the Suns in 2019.

“There is no number that has the tie to me as 23 does because of Psalm 23 and because of … my middle name is Jordan and I watched Jordan videos growing up like none other,” Johnson stated.

Psalms 23 A psalm of David.

1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley,[a] I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Verse of the Day

“[Jesus Comforts His Disciples] “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
