An 11-year-old boy created the memory of a lifetime when he helped rescue his dying grandma in the most amazing way.
His grandma was having medical problems when he personally drove her to safety in her own Mercedes-Benz. PJ’s grandma said the 11-year-old does whatever he sets his mind to, without hesitation.
The incident
It was a medical emergency for the elderly grandma last week and she knew that her grandson would rescue her. “He’s an easygoing little fella. He loves to play outside,” said Angela Brewer-Laye. She and her grandson PJ spend a lot of time together outside.
They were taking a walk last week about a mile and a half from her house, “PJ always rides his four-wheeler or his go-kart or dirt bike while I’m getting exercise in,” she said. She started to feel imbalanced and her vision became hazy, indicating that her blood sugar was getting too low. “He noticed my demeanor, and right when I was about to go down to the ground, that’s when he springs into action,” she said.
PJ took off like a shot, as she was trying to steady herself on the road. “I made it to the stop sign,” she said. “I was leaning against the stop sign, and all of a sudden, I look to my right, and I see my car; my Mercedes-Benz coming towards me! Just in an easy, calm, manner, it was coming towards me. And I looked in the car and it was PJ.”
She appreciated how cool and calm he was during the whole ordeal, “This child is only 11 years old and drives like a pro,” she said. She took a video of him driving the car because she couldn’t believe how well he drove it. “He drove me home, and he pulled in the driveway. And when I say he pulled in the driveway so precise, because my driveway is kind of narrow… He didn’t go up the curb, in the grass, nothing. He pulled in the driveway, in the garage, and helped me out the car,” she said.
He got inside the house and got his grandma some glucose tabs and a package of peanut butter crackers and then she questioned him about his driving skills. Her husband had asked him to move cars around in the yard before, but never in the street and never by himself. She’s just so thankful he was there. “He’s an extra special little boy! He has humble ways. And he doesn’t ask for nothing in return,” she said.
So they rewarded PJ for his bravery by taking him out to a restaurant to have his favorite- crab legs, as a thank you and an early birthday present, as PJ is turning 12 years old on Wednesday. God bless this special boy and may he grow more in wisdom and stature in the coming years.
